Start with the questions families ask most often.

Is Air Cadets part of the military?
No. Cadets are not members of the Canadian Armed Forces and make no commitment to military service. Military traditions provide structure for leadership, citizenship, teamwork, and skill development.
How much does it cost?
The program has no squadron enrolment fee and uniforms are issued. Families are expected to care for issued items and are encouraged to support squadron fundraising and volunteering.
How much time does it take?
Expect a regular weekly training evening during the school year plus selected weekend activities. Optional teams and advanced opportunities add time by choice.
Do cadets have to fly?
No. Aviation is an important part of Air Cadets, but the program also includes leadership, citizenship, fitness, music, drill, outdoor skills, speaking, and service.
What if a cadet joins after age 12?
Older youth can join within current eligibility rules. Staff help them understand progression and may discuss suitable training options.
Are travel and summer opportunities guaranteed?
No. Opportunities vary by year and may involve eligibility, applications, selection, capacity, and performance. Current notices are authoritative.
What if cost or equipment is a concern?
Speak privately with squadron staff. Financial circumstances should not prevent an eligible young person from participating.
Where does 918 train?
918 Griffon Squadron normally operates from Good Shepherd Church in northwest Calgary. Confirm current times, entrances, and special instructions on the contact page and calendar.
